Professional Footballers

CP Waites Principal Nick Waites has developed a specialism for providing tax advice to a wide range of professional footballers, especially overseas players employed by UK clubs.

Nick’s work representing footballers began through his links with Middlesbrough FC when in 1997 he was asked by the club to provide tax advice to Slovakian defender Vladimir Kinder, who was one of the club’s first foreign imports.

Over the years CP Waites has advised a large number of Middlesbrough FC’s predominantly foreign players and management staff, continuing to act on behalf of the majority of them with other UK clubs.

Having held a FIFA agents licence for a number of years, Nick has a good working knowledge of the industry, and the practice has worked with agents and advisers in Spain, Germany and Belgium, whilst looking after the tax concerns of all of their players based with a variety of Premiership clubs.

Work CP Waites carries out for professional footballers includes tax compliance work, advising on benefits in kind and advising on issues that impact a player’s tax liability such as their domicile status.

Our current clients include Kevin de Bruyne, Kevin Wimmer, Sebastian Prodl, Luis Alberto, Marten de Roon, Bernardo Espinosa, Daniel Ayala, George Boateng, Craig Hignett and Franck Queudrue.
